We have a range of free* adult courses that can help you learn new skills, boost your confidence and enhance your career.

If you are over 18, it doesn’t mean that your education is over! We have a range of adult courses at Sheppey College – some are 1 or 2 days, some are run during the evenings, some are run during school hours – all of them are designed to suit you.

​

We offer fully accredited courses to help you get straight into employment, or hobby courses to enhance your knowledge and skills, we also offer workshops to give you an insight into an industry before joining a part time or full time course. Whatever type of course you’re looking for, you’ll find it within the EKC Group.

Of course becoming an adult learner has its benefits, such as a free breakfast every day you attend college, or free childcare for when you are at College, we can fund any resources and kits you need for a course which will be yours to keep at the end. We can also offer funding for courses for those who are on a low income.

Adult Short Courses at Sheppey College 

Digital Skills

Our Digital Skills course will run for 4 weeks plus an introductory session. The 4 weeks after introduction will be done remotely, so you can learn from home.  

 

This course is designed for learners over 18 looking to fast track and get a qualification quickly.  The course can be flexible and to suit learners for 2 hours per week.

Introduction to Hairdressing 

This short course will cover basic techniques in ladies and men's hair and salon health and safety, with a small element of barbering. 

 

Your course fee includes a hairdressing kit which you will need to take part in the course and will be yours to keep when you have completed.

Upon completion of this course, learners will receive a Level 1 Certificate in Hair accredited by Gateway. 

Introduction to Plastering

You will learn the basics of plastering on this introductory course and receive a Level 1 Gateway Certificate in Construction Skills upon completion. You will learn the following:

  • Health and Safety in Construction

  • Working in Construction

  • Erect and Dismantle Access Equipment and Working Platforms

  • Fixing Dry Lining Boards

  • Plastering Skills

  • Construction Painting Skills

  • Effective Communication in the Workplace

  • Working in a Team

  • Using Numeracy Skills in the Workplace 

 

Mental Health Awareness 

This Level 1 Award in Mental Wellbeing is accredited by Gateway. This course will run for 20 hours across 5 consecutive week days, and will be done remotely. 

 

This qualification is a short introduction to support learners to develop their understanding of Mental Wellbeing. Understanding of what is meant by mental health and ill-health; how to look after own mental well-being; how to support friends and family with mental health difficulties; and how to access mental health support. 

CSCS Card Training 

The Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment has been developed for delivery in a training environment. This course will take place over 3 consecutive days, 9am - 4pm.

It has been designed to:

  • Develop learners skills and knowledge at this level

  • Prepare learners to take further qualifications to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding within their chosen craft

  • Fulfil CSCS training requirements for the Labourer's card
